Tower of Heaven was a platformer game that is revered on NewGrounds for many reasons. The reasons for such praise ranges from it's platforming, it's story, it's music, and art style. It's honestly a game that I had a few hard times with, mostly because I couldn't get used to a few parts. That doesn't keep it from being a good game though.

Lets start with the gameplay. It's your standard platformer, with just running and jumping. There's no upgrades, be them temporary or permanent. What does change is the obstacles. You have your basic spikes, buzz-saws, and fans. There are also obstacles that present themselves because of the story, which is where I will talk about said obstacles.

The story is this: You're a guy wanting to climb the Tower of Heaven, who is run by this god fellow. He eventually gives you a tablet of commands. From that point on, anything he says goes. He'll use this tablet to create more obstacles in the form of commands. He says for you not to touch gold blocks, or not to touch living things, or not to touch the sides to blocks. Disobey any of these rules, and you disintegrate. There are three different endings, depending on the three treasures hidden as optional things. There's an ending for getting none, one for getting some, and one for getting all three. Anyways, epic and beautiful endings none the less.

Speaking of beauty, this game has got that down to a science in both aesthetics and music. The art-style is a simple, yet beautifully crafted and well done. It only uses three real colors: A black, a gray, and a shade of yellow. This fits the whole golden and holy heaven theme really well. It produced a certain atmosphere that just envelops you almost as much as the music does. I've gone over the music in Tower of Heaven in my very first VGMC, and I'll go into it again. Tower of Heaven's soundtrack is beautiful, atmospheric, and overflowing with an entrancingly immersive feeling you just don't shake off. Why would you? Why would you want to shake off the world both the aesthetics and music so perfectly envelop you in?

In the end, its a revered game for good reasons. It's a bit on the short side, with speed runners beating it in about two minutes and a half. If you're not too good at the game though, it can still be a decently good play through. While the could take a bit of getting used to, the atmosphere and world building is great for the small game that it is. It's beautiful, has beautiful music, and it over all a great game. So go play it.
