Organ Trail: Directors Cut is the remake of that 'ol computer game you used to play at the library, The Oregon Trail, but with a twist. What is this twist, you ask? Well taking a guess from the name, you'd probably see that it's zombies. You know, 'cause organs and zombies eat organs. Well this game redoes all the old one did, but with a zombie theme this time around. Its got the old components: The vehicle(this time a station wagon), rations(lots of different rations), and towns to stop at. The setup is identical to the older one, just re-themed really.

Some things are new, such as what rations to keep up with. Now you have food, fuel, ammo, scrap, money, even mufflers, tires, and batteries. The mufflers and tires and batteries open way to upgrades for your car, which could be found at each town. Now that we're on that topic, lets talk about these towns. Each one works relatively the same, just has few different aspects. Those would be the jobs (usually requiring you to kill zombies or bandits), the auto shop upgrades (one per auto shop), the supplies that have for sale, and the opening picture. Lemme tell you, these pictures a cool. It shows the zombified versions of all the places you come across, such as: Pittsburg, Washington DC, Memphis, etc. Each one is interesting and some even have references to games such as Left 4 Dead.

Lets talk about the one true problem with this game: The car. It has a durability factor to it, and the ways of repairing the piece of junk is either paying to get it fixed or fix it yourself via scrap. You can only fix a certain percentage of it at a time, increasing your chances of actually working by adding more and more scrap. Why is this so bad? Well, using seven scrap to have it not work at all is stupid. Just make it easier or just take it out or something! You can waste all your scrap fixing it from 0% percent to about 20%. Once you have all your scrap wasted you can either sit and wait to trade with people (taking up food rations) and hope that they even trade scrap, or scavenge and hope some shows up.

Speaking of scavenging. You're basically in an area where zombies one in from all edges of the screen and supplies are randomly scattered for you to pick up, theres no way to abort, you just have to wait it out. The combat is weird. You have a rifle that reloads after every shot, and to aim you click your character and drag away from the direction you want to shoot, having only three white dots to aim with. Its not all that hard, seeing how all the zombies just walk towards you. There are normal zombies, half zombies, and fat zombies. First two take one shot to kill, the last one takes two. Oh, and don't forget the bosses, which swoop in out of nowhere to kill you instantly. Once a zombie touches you you're instantly taken out of combat and loose a chunk of health.

Honestly, the games got some good features. You can kill members of your party if they get infected or take up too many rations. You get to shoot them in the face, or gut or knee, or wherever. Theres things like moving through horde. Will you stealth? Will you go guns blazing? Will you hire nearby mercenaries? What will you do? You can take out biker gangs, or a horde of ravenous deer. Thing is, most of Organ Trail: Director's Cut is travel. You can only travel via station wagon. It breaks down often. Repairing it is a PAIN. It inhibits the major part of the game, and thats a darn shame.

Aww Yeah!

I do lots of writing, but also dabble in videos.

I write about whatever I want, but it's mostly games.

Also, excellent taste in VGM.
