A brutal challenge is a game called League of Evil. This platform game involves you, a muscular cyborg man, defeating the evil scientist at the end of each level. Trust me, there’s plenty in each level to stop you. There’s spikes, robots, ninjas, gunmen, turrets, lasers, and more. Good thing you’re a mercenary with skills, or else it’d be a suicide mission. You can double jump, wall jump, and even do a dash technique to either attack enemies or gain some extra air. Fortunately for you, the enemies(turrets, gunmen, but not ninjas) are defeated with one strike. Unfortunately for you, so are you. One hit, you’re out. This makes the game hard when combined with the fact that there are no checkpoints.
The levels are really well designed. The flash version has a total of 40 levels, but trust me, they’re not too easy to get through. The level usually have little segments you go through, but never any checkpoints. Their design makes the flow of each level very intuitive.
Out of all the games I’ve played, flash or not, this one has some of the best game feel I’ve ever had. The smooth level design and tight controls puts you into this mode of sorts. Each level is designed for you to just get your bearings, get momentum, keep it together, and die a lot. Don’t worry, you’ll make progress. You’ll get farther and farther until you finally blaze through the level, giving a great feeling of satisfaction. This is the same satisfaction that makes you want to continue playing the game, despite all the failed attempts it took.
League of Evil only has 40 levels on it’s flash version, but its mobile versions have many more levels added on. The mobile versions have some slight differences as well, the biggest being this: Every time you die, the game pulls a Super Meat Boy and shows a replay of that run, and the run before that, and so on and so forth. It does this as you’re trying to play the level, making it difficult at times to differentiate between you and the previous you. It also takes out segments from the flash game in some of the levels they imported. Most of the mobile levels are kind of easy and very short. All in all, good game. Great game feel, good level design, pretty appealing visually and musically, and a good challenge for those interested in a platform game.
